The New South Wales Country Committee has announced that it is seeking applications for the Jamboree Referee Development Scholarships program. 16 Scholarships will be awarded to the Port Macquarie event and 8 to the Great Murray Jamboree in Albury*
*At this stage of the process, applicants are required to submit an application without preference. Once nominations are received and scholarships awarded NSW Country basketball will determine which tournament the official will attend based on the qualifications of the individual.
The scholarships (valued at $275.00 each) are aimed at encouraging young country officials to pursue their refereeing goals by providing them with on court experience and off court education and coaching in the fun environment of a Jamboree. Scholarships holders will be required to contribute $100.00 to the cost – total amount being $375.00
Referee’s who are awarded a Jamboree Scholarship will receive the following:
- 4 x nights accommodation
- All meals while at the Jamboree
- Photo
- Referee’s shirt
- Participation certificate
- Quality coaching and educational sessions
(Referees are required to make their own way to and from the Jamboree)
Country Associations are invited to nominate referees for the Jamboree scholarship based on the following:
- Aged between 14 years and 16 years with a level of Y2 or Y3
- Currently an active referee at association level, officiate at Junior League Level in 2009 or 2009 Country Junior Bball Tournament.
- Has experience with, or is capable of refereeing at representative level
- Has a desire to become a better referee and shows potential to progress.
- Currently registered with BNSW
- Preference will be given to higher graded officials in the event that positions don’t get filled
