Welcome to 2008 Basketball NSW – Waratah Australian Basketball League, State League and Youth League Programs.

Firstly I would like to acknowledge the passing of Mr Bill Poriazis, our previous State League Commissioner.  Bill’s tireless work and friendship will always be remembered.

In the interim, I will be performing the role of Referee’s Commissioner for the above leagues.

The Referee Coaches remain committed to maintaining a high standard of education, development and training for referees.  I look forward to working with them again this year.

There were some excellent referee performances during last season and we challenge everyone to better themselves again this year.

Similar to last year, the ABA Commissioners met and ratified the nationally accepted ‘Points of Emphasis’ for the 2008 season, which is available in the 'documents' sesction of the WABL / SBL Page. CLICK HERE for a copy of the POE     

Lastly, CLICK HERE for the 2008 Panels List as adopted by the Basketball NSW Referee’s Executive Committee. The Panels will consist as follows:

• Panel 1 – Level 3 and above officials (National Panel).
• Panel 2 - Level 3 and above officials (non National Panel).
• Panel 3 - Level 2 and below officials.

Please note: To referee WABL you MUST be a current Level 2 Referee.
If you do not appear on the Panel please send Hannah or myself an email.

The payment schedule for WABL has changed and is listed below:

WABL Men:               $100 – Panel 1 (Generally Crew Chief - Referee)
                                    $80 – Panel 2 (Generally Umpire 1)
                                    $60 – Panel 3 (Generally Umpire 2)

Women:                      $80 – Panel 1 (Generally Referee)
                                    $70 – Panel 2 (Generally Referee / Umpire)
                                    $60 – Panel 3 (Generally Umpire)

I encourage all of you to become familiar with these documents, and use them as a reference guide. They will also be placed onto the BNSW Website.
