The Basketball NSW Referee Action Day is aimed at providing every referee in NSW with the opportunity for further education and development in the various areas of officiating.
The Basketball NSW Referee Action Day is compulsory for all Level 1A and above referees and Grade 1 and above referee coaches who wish to represent Basketball NSW and participate in the following:
- Any Basketball Australia National Championships
- Basketball NSW Junior League (Under 16’s and above)
- National Referee’s Development Program (NRDP)
- State Referee’s Development Program (SRDP)
- The NSW State Basketball / Youth League (SBL)
- The Waratah Australian Basketball League (WABL)
- The Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) or
- The National Basketball League (NBL).
Eligibility to represent Basketball NSW in any of the above events will be based upon the following criteria:
- Submission of Nomination Form (must be supported by your association).
- Submission of Indemnity Form (Fitness Test – ABA Refs Only)
- Successful completion of the open book Theory Test (pass mark 80%) – exam attached
- Successful completion of the FIBA Fitness Test – (ABA Refs only)
- Attendance at all facilitated sessions during the Action Day (sign on sheet for each session)
- Submission of an availability form.
Key Information regarding the different leagues will be given to attending participants.
All written reasons for non-attendance must be forwarded in advance (where possible) to Hannah Everett. Non attendance will be considered a most serious issue and only matters which are of special or exceptional circumstances will be taken into consideration.
All other matters will not be considered and may render the referee and/or referee coach ineligible to represent BNSW in any of the above competitions and may affect the eligibility of home associations to participate in competitions.
In the event that you fail to complete / pass any one of the required components you will not be eligible to represent Basketball NSW in any of the above events. You must complete all components of the required criteria. You will not be rostered until these criteria are satisfied. The WABL and SBL Referee Commissioner’s have been clearly instructed to abide by these directions.
Those that fail the fitness test will be provided with a second opportunity. This will be a re-test only. The times/dates and venues are to be nominated.
Local Association fitness tests will not be accepted or recognised. The fitness tests can ONLY be supervised by the Technical and Operations Manager, the WABL and/or SBL Referee’s Commissioner.
