Eltham – Dandenong Tournament
2008
Purpose of Selection:
Selection in the NSW Metropolitan Junior Teams is intended to provide the opportunity for gifted Metro
players to further develop their individual and team skills to realise their full playing potential leading to
State and higher representative honours
The tournament is conducted each year over a weekend in late January.
Travel is minimised. Teams nominate whether they wish to play in the Eltham side or the Dandenong side of the tournament. The A Grade teams come together for a combined finals series. The B and C Grades conduct finals series in their own area.
Venues used by Eltham include Mill Park, Diamond Valley, Eltham, Bulleen, Slaters Reserve, Balwyn High, Doncaster and Nunawading. It is often possible to regionalise sections until the finals.
There is a fantastic variety of teams to play. Visitors to the Eltham area in 2007 included South Adelaide, Norwood, Sturt, Devonport, Launceston, Penguin, combined NSW, Illawarra, Sale, Benalla and Kinglake as well as all the suburban associations in the Eastern and Northern area.
A Grade games are run on a one hour schedule and there is a guarantee of four games before finals. In the lower grades, teams are guaranteed five games, except in the case of very late withdrawals.
