The Metropolitan Development Program (MDP) is a BNSW Talent Identification & Individual & Team Development Program for NSW Metropolitan U/11, U/13 & U/15 Age Basketball Athletes
Emphasis in the camps associated with this program is on the identification of talented athletes and on the aspects of both their individual and team development.
It is designed mainly for any presently aged U/11players and for presently aged U/13 & U/15 Association Representative Players who will be trying out to play in their Association’s U/14 & U/16 Representative Teams next year.
As in all talent ID programs, there are selection processes in place at the first camp where players are identified and selected to participate in the following two camps that make up the program. At the completion of the program, two teams each of boys and of girls from the U/13 & U/15 divisions will be selected to represent in the U/14, U/15 & U/16 Metropolitan Development Tour Teams in January 2008.
Participants who take part in this program must accept that they may not necessarily be selected then invited to move through to the next level.

The Stages of the program through which athletes progress are:
Under 11’s
- U/11 Metro Development Program Selection Camp – held over one Sunday in a NSW metro venue
- U/11 Metro Development Program Train & Play Camps – held over two Sundays in a NSW metro venue
- U/11 or U/12 Pre-games – when available - played before NBL or WNBL games during December/January by teams selected from the U/11 MDP
Under 13’s
- U/13 Metro Development Program Selection Camp – held over one Sunday in a NSW metro venue
- U/11 Metro Development Program Train & Play Camps – held over two Sundays in a NSW metro venue
- U/14 Pre-games – when available - played before NBL or WNBL games during December/January by teams selected from the U/13 MDP
- U/14 Metropolitan Development Tour Teams – two U/14 boys’ teams and two U/14 girls’ teams are selected from the U/13 MDP games. Will represent NSW Metropolitan on the Development Tour to the Dandenong/Eltham Tournament in Melbourne during January 2008.
Under 15’s
- U/15 Metro Development Program Selection Camp – held over one Sunday in a NSW metro venue
- U/15 Metro Development Program Train & Play Camps – held over two Sundays in a NSW metro venue
- U/15 Metropolitan Development Tour Teams – one U/15 boys’ team and one U/15 girls’ team are selected from the U/15 MDP games. Will represent NSW Metropolitan on the Development Tour to the Pacific Coast Slam at Port Macquarie during January 2008.
- U/16 Metropolitan Development Tour Teams –two U/16 boys’ teams and two U/16 girls’ teams are selected from the U/15 MDP games. Will represent NSW Metropolitan on the Development Tour to the East Coast Challenge Tournament against development teams from Victoria Metropolitan in Sydney during January 2008.
Selection trials will be conducted for players at various venues as listed below.
Players who wish to trial must complete and return the official application form that may be accessed by clicking in the appropriate place as indicated below.
Coaches may apply to coach or assistant coach teams in the MDL. Team Managers are also required. Coaches and Team Managers who wish to coach or manage in the MDL program must complete and return the official application form that may be accessed by clicking in the appropriate place
as indicated below.
